Job Description Summary:
Provides comprehensive, high-quality, and patient-centered healthcare services within an outpatient clinic setting. This role involves independent and collaborative practice in assessing, diagnosing, treating, and managing acute and chronic health conditions, health promotion, and disease prevention for a diverse patient population, all while upholding AdventHealth’s mission and values.

Job Description Summary:
The Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner (ARNP) is a key member of the surgical care team, providing comprehensive patient care under physician supervision. Responsibilities include diagnosing and treating patients, coordinating pre- and post-operative care, performing assessments and consults, assisting in surgery as first assist when needed, conducting bedside procedures, discharge planning, patient education, and rounding on surgical patients. The ARNP also collaborates with physicians, nursing, and leadership teams to enhance quality of care, support robotic surgery initiatives, maintain clinical documentation, and promote wellness and disease prevention. Weekend and on-call coverage may be required depending on practice needs.
Knowledge and Skills Required:
- Risk Management: understand method and reasoning for reporting incidents, completion of hospital incident report form, assists department manager or others in recognizing and reducing risk within the department and other areas of the hospital.
- Service Management: Demonstrates courteous service, and ability to meet special needs or requests, performs duties and a timely manner and provides updates if a delay occurs, communicates with courtesy when interacting with internal and external patients, in person or by telephone. Respects patient’s privacy, confidentiality and dignity.
- Understands and Complies with the Environment of Care/Infection Control Responsibilities.
- Is Knowledgeable and Complies with the States Institutional Activities and Expectations.
- Provides and Expedites Patient Care in Units and ICUs: performs H&P’s and dictates into chart, writes admitting/progress notes into patient chart, writes discharge summaries and orders as directed by supervising physician, initiates standing orders for patients both pre/post op, performs pre-operative visits and follow up exams, completes specific procedures under the direction of the physicians including, but not limited to removal of chest tubes an NG tubes and wound care, and provides system management of Surgical practice patients as per medical staff privilege delineation.
- Provides Direct Patient Care in Floors and Units.
- Assists physicians with coordination of clinical activities and orders.

Job Description Summary:
Evaluates, diagnoses, treats, and manages a wide range of medical conditions. Prescribes medications, develops patient treatment options, interprets and verifies test results, and collaborates with other healthcare providers for continued education to ensure comprehensive and coordinated patient care. Provides medical care to patients under the supervision of a physician. Conducts physical examinations, orders and interprets diagnostic tests. Works closely with physicians to develop and implement treatment plans for patients. Educate patients and their families about healthcare issues, disease management, and preventive care.
Knowledge and Skills Required:
- Formulating interventions and performing therapeutic measures to ensure the appropriate individualized plan of care is implemented.
- Applying knowledge of age specific needs, (pediatric, adolescents, adult and geriatric) to plan of care interventions and patients' responses to care
- Performance of rounds & recording of computerized written and/or dictated documentation of all patient encounters by computerized progress notes, brief operative note, procedural notes or admission/consultation/discharge summary dictation
- Pre-operative patient evaluation and medical optimization
- Post-operative patient ICU and floor management
- Participation in Clinical & multidisciplinary rounds by contributing specific surgical perspective & promoting integrated comprehensive patient care, & assisting with discharge planning
- Provide relevant patient education and counseling regarding heath status/test results/disease process & discharge planning
- Address patient psychosocial needs by assessing patient's functional status & evaluating patient's mental status by Consultation/Referral to other health professionals & community agencies
- Assessing clinical factors including, but not limited to, immunosuppression complications, drug toxicity, infections complications and risk rejection
- Assist the collaborating physician in any intervention in the interest of patient care/safety
- Functions fully within the Outpatient and Inpatient setting
- Providing on-call coverage for medical triage for outpatients in collaboration with the physician on-call

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Determines abnormalities by ordering and/or administering appropriate diagnostic tests, such as X-rays, electrocardiograms, and laboratory studies.
- Reviews and interprets patient test results.
- Provides pre- and post-operative care and patient education.
- Performs therapeutic procedures by administering injections, suturing, managing drains, dressing changes, wound care, and infection management in both the clinic and hospital settings.
- Performs hospital rounds on surgical consultations, pre- and post-operative hospital patients.
- Performs and/or assists the supervising physician with discharge services including discharge planning, discharge summaries, and coordinating post-discharge follow-up care.
- Serves as surgical first-assist during operating procedures.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
- 2+ years experience
- Graduate of a physician assistant program approved by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA)
- 2+ post-graduation clinical experience or one-year post-graduate surgical residency training experience Required
- 1+ cardiothoracic specialty specific experience Required
- Pre-Operative, Intra-Operative, Post-operative Surgical patient care experience Required
